VDF "Bora" (Orange) 2023
Mare Nostrum Vini, a project Inspired by a childhood spent growing up along the mediterranean coast, was founded by Antoine Isenbrandt and Athénaïs de Béru . Each of the wines come from carefully selected vineyards starting in the South of France and expanding across the Mediterranean. The wines all have a common link, each is named after the wind that influences the region from which they come and plays a crucial role in the character that can be discovered in each bottle.
Bora: La Bora is the great wind of the Adriatic. It blows due north from the heart of Central Europe all the way to the Italian and Balkan coasts. In Trieste, it regularly reaches speeds of 200 km/h, shaping both the landscape and local lifestyles, to the point that Slovenia is often called the “Gateway of the Bora.”
Terroir: 35 year old vines on clay-limestone soils.
Vinification: Grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed. The juice is macerated with the skins for 12 days prior to fermentation with native yeast. The wine ages with its fine lees for 19month in 228 litre old oak barrels before bottling.
