Yes this is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire, but this wine defies the usual expectations of that style. The signature citrus and stone fruit notes are there, but there is a nutty, salty, mineral vein running through. Lower acidity than usual for Sauvignon and a bit more body and structure. It will definitely challenge your expectations of what is possible from this grape in this region.
The Story: Maverick Muscadet producer Jérôme Bretaudeau of Domaine de Bellevue is devoted to the compelling terroir of Muscadet, but is known for forging his own path. Jérôme is a true lover of wine, and has set out to grow the grapes he likes to drink. He loves Sauvignon Blanc and has endeavoured to make a fresh but full style of his own.
Vinification: Sauvignon Blanc vines averaging 20-years-old growing on schist soils. Grapes are hand harvested, de-stemmed and gently pressed. The juice is then aged in stainless steel for a few months and then bottled.
Match it with: Excellent as an aperitif, or alongside white fish with herbs, grilled poultry or vegetable dishes or soups.
