Pella

People have been making wine in Pella for millennia. It is where Euripides’ play Bacchae – about the god of wine and enjoyment – was first performed in 408BC. The medium sized PGI (protected designation of origin) is in the northwest of Greece, and just northwest of Thessaloniki.

Pella has plenty of sun and fresh air, and is set on well-drained loam and limestone. The main varieties of grapes grown there are Roditis, Agiorgitiko, Xinomavro and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is known for its dry and semi-dry whites, reds and rosés.
