A rare wine that is only released in exceptional vintages, made from the nearly-extinct Limniona grape. A deep purple colour with intense aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, plum and blackcurrant. Hints of lavender, dried herbs and leather. Lots of body and acidity and a powerful finish.
The Story: Ktima Ligas was founded in 1985 in Thessaloniki, Greece by Thomas Ligas, with a quest to revive both the traditional varieties and traditional agriculture of the Pella region through respect and cooperation with nature. Today the domaine is run by his daughter Meli, who continues the focus on permaculture and local grapes, and adapts her cuvées to each vintage, parcel and variety. Limniona is a rare grape, known for its deep purple and red colour that contrasts with its delicate flavours. Lots of red fruits but also always mineral, spices and herbs. It has a rich tannins, strong acidity and high alcohol and makes incredible, age-worthy wines.
Vinification: 25-30 year-old Limniona vines growing on clay and sand. Grapes are hand-harvested and naturally fermented, and the wine is aged for a few months in old oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.
Match it with: pork belly with spices, roast beef, braised lamb with herbs.
