A humid spring and a dry, sunny summer meant ideal conditions in 2020 and made a truly beautiful wine. This is classic Melon de Bourgogne…. freshness, acidity and a subtle attack, with citrus and mineral notes, and a tough of saltiness. A real joy to drink. Unfortunately the conditions were not so great in 2021, and Les Perrieres was not produced. So be sure to stock up on the 2020 to tide you over!

The Story: Jérôme Bretaudeau is known as a bit of a maverick in Muscadet- he grows grapes found nowhere else in the region, vilifies in every type of vessel imaginable and is constantly experimenting in the vineyard and the cellar. His Melon de Bourgogne wines deliver a distinctive minerality on the palate thanks to his granite soils. He makes both single parcel expressions and blends, to show the expressiveness of the terroir and the grape. “Les Perrieres” is from a single plot of granite soils, which is known to produce the most structured Muscadets. Expect lots of texture, weight and a mineral edge.

Vinification: Thirty-year-old vines are hand harvested and grapes are vinified completely naturally- without any added yeasts or enzymes, and no cold filtration. The juice is aged two years in concrete tanks.

Match it with: Any fresh shellfish, oysters, raw fish, lightly grilled or steamed fish with lemon and capers.
