A demi-sec Chenin with a rich mouth feel and candied fruit flavors, alongside saline minerality and vibrant acidity. More tropical fruit and intensity than dry years, with the same layers of complexity and long finish. Drink at 12-13° C. Residual sugar approx. 25 g/l.

Clos de La Meslerie is an organic estate near Vouvray that employs a non-interventionist approach in all aspect of Chenin blanc production. The winemaker Peter Hahn uses no herbicides, no pesticides and only the lowest-necessary low dose of copper sulfate. Thirty to sixty year-old vines grown in gently-tilled flint-clay soils. Grapes are all hand-harvested and rigorously selected. Extremely low yields (20hl p/ha) due to selective picking. Gentle, slow juice extraction from a 100-year old hand press. Each year Peter makes just one still Chenin, and does not adjust the sugar levels of the wine. He lets nature decide the sweetness of each release, though all carry the same full texture and elegance.

Vinification: Barrel fermented and aged on lees for 11 months, stirred regularly by hand to encourage natural aromas and protect from oxidation. No new oak, and no fining or cold-treatment of the wine. Only 9500 bottles produced, each individually numbered.

Match it with: Perfect with a cheese aperitif or cheese plate, or alongside a dish with some spice, like Szechuan shrimp. Also great with roast poultry accompanied by sautéed plums or quince.
