A 100% Assyrtiko made with skin contact, creating a more full bodied and intense version of the domaine’s Assyrtikos. Stone fruits, wild herbs, balsamic and pine– reminiscent of the Greek countryside. Deliciously complex, rich and yet still very fresh and approachable, with the depth of flavour that has become the Ligas signature.

The Story: Ktima Ligas was founded in 1985 in Thessaloniki, Greece by Thomas Ligas, with a quest to revive both the traditional varieties and traditional agriculture of the Pella region through respect and cooperation with nature. Today the domaine is run by his daughter Meli, who continues the focus on permaculture and local grapes, and adapts her cuvées to each vintage, parcel and variety. Meli explains the idea behind this cuvée, “I wanted to an easy to drink approach to skin contact Assyrtiko.” The thick skins of this grape give lots of texture to the wine, but a shorter maceration limits the effects, making a more versatile, food-friendly wine.

Vinification: From15-20 year-old Assyrtiko vines growing in a pergola on clay-limestone and sand soils on a parcel surrounding the cellar. Grapes are hand-harvested and left for 10 days of skin maceration in stainless steel. Natural fermentation and aging in stainless steel for 6-7 months. Unfined and unfiltered, no added sulphites.

Match it with: Fish or chicken with rich sauces, strong cheeses.
