A 100% Merlot unlike any Merlot you’ve ever tasted. In fact, Saša says "this is much more radical than Merlot.” A rich garnet colour, with mushroom and tamari on the nose. The palate is an explosion of savoury sauces over dark fruit, earth and tobacco. An incredibly textural wine that changes in the glass with time. A must try for those who are usually NOT a fan of this grape.

Story: In a tiny village in the far northeast corner of Italy, Saša Radikon produces arguably the finest skin-contact wines in the world. Saša is revered around the world as a pioneer and absolute master of macerated wines. Over two decades ago, Saša decided to experiment with Merlot, and began with this single-varietal cuvée, eventually combining it as well with Pignolo for the RS wine. He knew he could make something special with this grape, and says, “This is what Merlot must be… no boring flavours.”

Vinification: Berries are pressed directly and macerated on the skins in oak vats for a 30 days. The wine matured for 10 years in old oak barrels, then allowed to settle for a few months before being bottled. The wine is unfined, unfiltered with no additional sulphur.

Match it with: Beef bolognese, venison with currant sauce, strong aged cheeses.
