VDP "Savagnin Blanc" (White) 2022

A 100% Savagnin, a variety historic in the Swiss Jura regions. Straw colour, a nose of white flowers and pear, white peach and marzipan on the palate. Slight mineral finish, good acidity and a faint waxy, oily texture. The 2023 is unfiltered, which gives a different texture and more body.

Story: Jean-Denis Perrochet crafts serious Swiss wines in Auvernier, a charming village bordering Lake Neuchâtel where his family has made wine since the 16th century. He emphasises local grapes, grown and vinified with modern and traditional methods, but always with respect for the terroir. This wine is classified as VDP because Savagnin is not approved in the appellation, and Maison Carrée is the only domaine growing it, thanks to encouragement of friends from Jura. In 2012 he grafted Savagnin vines onto 40-year old Chasselas trunks.

Vinification: Grapes grown deep, heavy, stone-free soils. Briefly macerated, then pressed with a 100 year-old vertical press. The wine spends six months on the lees and ages 6-8 months in large oak barrels. Unfiltered.

Match it with: Mature cheese or spicy poultry dishes
