Les Jardins Esméraldins
Settled in Brézé in the Loire valley, Les Jardins Esmeraldins is small estate run by Xavier Caillard, a young but talented winemaker. With no winemaking background, Xavier did his biology studies at University of Bordeaux with the wish to do research later. However, he was wondering about his professional orientation since his interest for wines was growing. After doing the harvests at Mark Angeli's estate, Xavier had a better idea of his projects and was encouraged by the winemaker to create his own estate around a house near Saumur that he inherited from his grandfathers. Consequently, he made his very 1st vintage in 1999.
The vineyards of Les Jardins Esmeraldins are spread on several plots which allows to get a great diversity of terroirs and to produce very complex and unique wines. Everything is done organically and through traditional methods (like horse ploughing for instance) on the vines. The wines are mainly made with the traditional grape varities of the region: Chenin Blanc, Gamay & Cabernet Franc. In his 1760's vault where Xavier has settled his winery, the winemaking is respectful of the fruit and very personal with a real philosophy of artisanship. The wines are aged for long times as he released his first bottles of the 1999 vintage only in 2007!
With his very personal approach of winemaking and his unfailing patience, Xavier Caillard with his wife Muriel produce truly genuine wines that will surely amaze your palate and senses as the Latin words on the labels say: "It's time for us to awake".
